Paris sketches

  1. These are stunning, Simon. Especially the one of Canal St Martin (only ever been through there in a taxi. Need to go on foot). You should perhaps self-publish these (along with your other holiday sketches) as a travel sketchbook). I'd buy it!

  2. Simply WOW.

I agree with Jonathan; I would definitely buy your sketchbook if you published it. I doubt you even understand how good these drawings are. They are so good, I want to punch myself in the face.

  3. Ha ha - please don't, Steve!

Many thanks, gentlemen. Hmm, something to consider.

J, I was largely unfamiliar with the canal too and now wonder why... it's a fantastic area!

  4. Beautiful, beautiful Mr. G! I spent a lovely, lazy Sunday walking along the Canal St Martin last year and these drawings brought it all back. Go back to Paris, make enough drawings for a travel book, only don't tell me what you spent in Album!

  7. Is there some arrangement by which I could go and live inside these drawings?

  10. Thanks for your kind comments, guys!

Dylan - I was just going through my old Skim Lizards and Horse minis etc the other day! Still great.

  12. That's awesome, Pete, and thank you! Let me know when you're next back, we need to catch up. Thought about you a lot in Paris, needless to say!

  13. I've got a print of Le Passage Cottin by Utrillo. I just compared yours with it and yours is better.

  14. Ha ha ha!

Utrillo... THE great cityscape painter. Good choice o' print, Al.

  15. Simon, these are so good it's painful to look at them. I would also buy these, if you were to publish them in a travel book.

I just went to a handful of the places you have been sketching (Paris, London), so it's super cool to compare my memories with your recorded observations.

So, super cool, and also painful. The perfect combination.

  16. Thanks for writing such a lovely comment, Traci.

I'll definitely consider drawing more views such as these with a printed sketchbook in mind. I thought I'd gotten drawing Paris out of my system a few years ago, but it seems I haven't!
